Once again, I might be wrong, but it seems like the togetherness of the plastic toys is juxtaposed with the fact that they are attached to separate bases or foundations (turf), which are forever disconnected.

U got it right, but u missed the optimism/delusion/ignorance (left to right) in the expressions on their faces.

I would have put the expression of the right most one to be "foolishly exuberant" rather than ignorance ... but good pic, especially rings good with "... prisoners of our own turf"
